When you buy an electronic device, you want to keep it safe of everything that could damage it. Handling them with care is not enough since a lot of things in the air can do a lot of damage if they are not appropriately protected. The principal enemy of any single piece of technology is water. Now, we are pretty sure that you are smart enough to avoid handling your smartphone or tablet close to liquids, but there is something that not even you can avoid when it comes to environmental factors affecting your tech. We are talking about the slightest humidity found in the air, the principal cause of corrosion.  

How Can we Avoid Corrosion if Humidity is Everywhere?

Prevention of corrosion on electronics is a very complex topic for rapid prototyping services. Despite what the guarantee or the advertising says, corrosion can’t be stopped, it can only be delayed. One of the better-known ways to prevent corrosion for any rapid prototyping service is the use of a little feature called “Intercept Technology.” The creator of the tech is a team nicknamed “The Lucent Bells Lab.” In the multinational tech company Alcatel.

The project was originated many years ago when a solution was a commission to many scientists in the USA to solve the corrosion issue that was eating the structure of the Statue of Liberty. The results proved to be so successful that the license was made public for any company who wanted to use it on their products. Although the technology still has to be improved to be used on the actual components of any device, the method used by the Intercept Technology is quite simple: use a barrier made of a polymer that neutralizes the humidity that corrodes the items.

How Rapid Prototyping Services Play a Role

Many rapid prototyping services are doing their best to make this technology affordable and suitable for small devices, may that probably will take a lot of time. A lot of the current solutions implemented by certain companies include the use of flammable substances or oils to prevent corrosion. The main advantage of intercept technology is that it doesn’t use any of these products. The protective layer is usually made with polymers that can withstand high temperatures, but it can be improved to be more eco-friendly.
